The first time I heard of a "new" steamer being launched, my initial reaction was "what could be so great about another new steamer"? But the Morphy Richards Intellisteam has proved to be quite the innovation in a product area where one would think innovation would be tricky.
In today’s world, we are all looking for a healthy eating lifestyle, but combined with time-saving and convenience. Now, your average steamer definitely caters for the healthy eating requirement, but most don’t offer the best in convenience and time-saving. With the majority of steamers you have to control the timing and therefore have to keep an eye on what is going on throughout the cooking process, but nor with the Intellisteam.
The Intellisteam steamer from Morphy Richards solves all these problems. So, what is so different about it? The main, and significant difference is the fact that there are separate timers for each of the 3 compartments. This means that you can put 3 different food types in the steamer, set the desired cooking time for each compartment (either by using the presets or setting manually) and then switch it on. The machine then works so that all 3 elements finish steaming at precisely the same time.
So all you need to do is prepare, set the times, switch on and relax, as the Intellisteam does the rest for you. And once the food is ready, but if you are not, the unit automatically switches to a 40-minute keep warm function. As for cleaning, I just rinse the compartments out, empty the water container and your are done.
I have used the Intellisteam for a number of various foods, ranging from chicken and fish, to vegetables and potatoes. As a first time user of a steamer, I have to say you really do notice the difference in taste of steamed food. I am new to steam cooking and have to say that I found the intellisteam cooked the food well (although I did up the times slightly, probably necessary due to the number of people I was cooking for). One problem I found with the baskets being square was actually getting a serving spoon to pick up from the corners.I didn't put the units in the dishwasher, as they were easy to clean. I have now spoken to 2 friends who cook by steaming and at whose homes I have enjoyed being a dinner guest on more than one occasion. Both of them layer the food, in their oval, easy stack steamers, according to size and type of the pieces of vegetable then cook, all in one go, for 25 minutes or so, which seems very straightforward. I am left with the slight feeling that I have purchased a more complex steamer for no really good reason. I am therefore glad that I bought this product while it was on offer and didn't pay more for something that did the same job in a more complex way and took up more cupboard/worktop space than the standard oval easy stacking steamers my friends currently use. However, the food was just as good, so overall I do like it.

This is a good quality steamer, one of the best items in my kitchen. In comparison with other steamers it is a rigid quality build and you can give every product the correct time it needs to achive the best result.

I bought this before Christmas and have had several very tasty meals cooked in it. Everyone knows that steaming is a healthy way to cook but as well as being good for you the food retains its flavour more and so the taste is improved aswell. Carrots in particular taste so much better done in a steamer than when boiled as they still taste carroty! The function which makes it an intelli steam not just a steamer which co-ordinates the end time is great, you really do just programme it and let it do its thing. I would definitely recommend this product (and have already done so to all my friends - my dinner guests needed no persuading - the food did the talking!
